THE UGLY TRUTH

"Broken," "inefficient," "disorganized": these are just a few of the adjectives that are invoked to describe the health-care insurance system in America. It's no secret that out of all the wealthiest nations in the world, America offers its citizens the worst health-care options — the highest prices for sub-par treatment.

WAITING FOR CHANGE

The situation has become so dire that almost everyone involved is calling for a drastic overhaul. Reform should be imminent, and as a consumer, it may seem best to wait until that reform comes to choose the best long-term plan. However, the unfortunate reality is that the health-care system as it stands would have to be completely dismantled and rebuilt for the average consumer to see any real positive change to coverage, and it's unlikely that will happen.

THE BEST OPTION

Nearly everyl other wealthy country has a single-payer option of insurance, or some form of it. It has proven itself to be the cheapest and most efficient form of health care. In America, health insurance is a multi-billion dollar industry, and in order to convert to a more efficient system, a lot of powerful people would have to be willing to lose a lot money. Waiting for reforms that will help us to buy better and cheaper coverage will probably be a very, very long wait.
